fiabe quasi classiche
In a village hugged by a river, in an outlandish house, there lived an old woman. Every day she took a lot of trouble to cook many delicious dishes, and then in the evening, sitting at the window on her rocking chair, she enjoyed the sight of the fog rising slowly from the river and swallowing everything. But one day, an unexpected guest knocked at her door: It was a Dark Shadow who want to take the old woman away. No way: the old lady had to prepare some superfine Christmas cakes. No one can make it as tasty as she does. So the Shadow will have to wait.
A new translation of the “classic of classics”: Aesop’s Fables. For the reader’s surprise, the original texts are rather different from what we are accustomed to read since La Fontaine and the first modern adaptations. Simone Rea, a bright new talent of the italian illustration scene, defies the challenge of such a masterpiece, concentrating on the fascination for nature and animal life which exudes from every line of the tales we inherited from a humble Greek slave.
A princess rescues her eleven brothers from a spell cast by an evil queen: a standard feature in a fairy tales. What makes “The Wild Swans” so peculiar is the magic pen of Hans Christian Andersen - in a fresh translation by a celebrated Italian author - and the delicate, although strong and powerful illustrations by Joanna Concejo, which reflect the strenght and determination of Eliza, our heroine.
For Guaraní people, the spider is the most sacred animal. When a child is born, they put a spider in the window of their hut to protect him from other insects, and some mothers, in the warm season, let the spiders build their web around the cots. Cobwebs ara also used to treat the wounds of the men returned from hunting. This is the reason why the web is the most precious gift.
An ancient, folkloric version of a famous fable: Little Red Riding Hood. A version preceding Charles Perrault. In our story, the little girl saves herself from the evilish hunger of the wolf, thanks to a clever trick. No God-sent hunter to solve the situation: the little girl succeeds in escaping the evil, counting only on her fear and cleverness. A declaration of trust in kids, and in their inexhaustible resources of intelligence, ingenuity and courage.

In 1842, the celebrated English poet Robert Browning put in verses the XIII century legend of the pied piper of Hamelin. He did so to comfort and amuse the son of his agent, who was in hospital and wanted something to read and illustrate. The result was an unknown masterpiece, dense with magic and music, as fascinating as the notes the pied piper plays to enchant both mice and children. And as fascintaing as the strong, dramatic woodcuts by Antonella Toffolo, reminiscent of the Blaue Reiter movement and the German expressionism.
