Typography

What is movable type? Who invented it? How did they print books in the past? What has changed since then? Everyday we read, write and digit words. These signs were born longtime ago and can have different shapes, which are types. Through the letters we communicate: we can shout or whisper, be straightforward or indirect, formal or affectionate. Michela Gasparini shows the art of typography in this PiPPo volume, to make children aware of how they use type and space.

Landscapes

This volume of PiPPo collection of art books is dedicated to landscapes. It is conceived following the example of en plein air landscape painters who used to wander about with their canvas and colours. Children can carry it anywhere, to the countryside, to the beach, to the mountains as well as through the city, to the suburbs and small towns. Texts by Marta Sironi disclose the secrets of the greatest painters with images by Pia Valentinis, master of still-life drawing.

Butterflies

A huge, purple-golden cloud lifts above the sea. What is it? It’s the dust falling off the butterflies wings after a terrible trial has stated they must give it away in the name of profit. In the sky in the sea

In the sky the cloud runs, the bird flies, the plane goes by… And in the sea? The crab runs, the fish swims, the turtle goes by… After the successful Quando il sole si sveglia (When the sun rises), a new board book by Giovanna Zoboli and Philip Giordano to show the little ones the brotherhood between creatures from the sky and from the sea. . Through the careful work of images and words, children will find an astonishing kinship between worlds that seem far off, understanding the delicate harmony which brings all things together in the world.

 

Yellow

It’s the colour of the light and the sun, it’s like gold, warm, rich and bright, the colour children like the most. This volume of PiPPo Colour series is dedicated to yellow. Blue

Because it conveys peace and deep feelings, blue is the favorite colour of most human beings. It’s the colour of the sea and the sky, which is why it’s always been a symbol of spirituality and nobility. But blue is also the colour of melancholy and nighttime, the threshold of unknown, hidden issues.
